In 2006, Ocean moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue his music career. Ocean attended the University of New Orleans to study english, but due to Hurricane Katrina, he was forced to transfer to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Ocean was born in Long Beach, California, later moving to New Orleans, Louisiana. Channel Orange received a Grammy for Best Urban Contemporary Album. This record blew up, reaching all the way to the number two spot on the Billboard Hot 200, later becoming a platinum album. In July of 2012, Ocean released the album Channel Orange. In 2012, Ocean secured a recording contract with Def Jam Recordings. Following his mixtape in 2011, he released his single Novacane, peaking at number 82 on the Billboard Hot 100 later becoming a platinum record. In 2010 Frank Ocean joined the hip hop group Odd Future, and the following year dropped his first mixtape Nostalgia, Ultra. Ocean is an American singer, songwriter, song producer that started off as ghost writer. Born as Christopher Edwin Cooksey on October 28th, 1987. There is so much variety in Channel Orange that if I had to pick one song to call my favorite, I wouldn’t be able to. Each song on the album it’s own and every beat is different. The vocals are ridiculously amazing his range is vast, hitting the highest and lowest notes, controlling every pitch. “Fertilizer” is like an old commercial that is literally trying to sell fertilizer, using catchy beats and lyrics that would cause the tune to be stuck in anyone’s ’s head.ĭescribe the music: The music is very uplifting, catchy, and smooth. 
“Super Rich Kids” reminds me of beautiful mansions with old cars in the driveway, a gardener trimming bushes, and a ball with hundreds of attendees. The song “Pilot Jones” makes me think of old flight attendant uniforms, with bright red lipstick and pinned up hair.
What does it remind me of: Channel Orange reminds me of the 1960’s. Every song is so unique, so one song evokes love, while another uses sounds to emulate confusion/sadness. The music sounds genuine and fluid, and not forced, as if Ocean didn’t like what he was making. What does it sound like: Every song tells a different story, creating settings and dialogues that add so much to the song. The lyrics, music, and vocals make me feel heartbreak, love, happiness, and sadness, all depending on the subject of each song. The vocals give me chills, pairing up perfectly with the beat on each track. Filling every limb of my body, moving me to the beat. How does it feel: The music is invigorating, making me want to move.
